Areas of Focus

Using the Pillars of Our Practice, we focus on the following topics (and more) to create balanced wellness.

Longevity

Live healthier, for longer

Longevity is more than just wanting to live longer: it’s about maximizing your healthy years.

Think about what you want to do as you age. Do you want to be able to carry a backpack through a foreign city? Garden? Pick up your grandkids? These activities require muscle strength and cardiac fitness, which decline significantly—and predictably—with age.

Thinking about your health as you age is similar to planning for retirement. Even small changes now add up over time to have a profound influence on aging.

Disease Prevention and Management

Prevent disease, eliminate medication

The leading causes of death in the United States are heart disease, cancer and stroke. Some of the most common chronic diseases that contribute to these leading killers are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and coronary artery disease. Our clinic is designed to meet you where you are, and develop a plan for how to prevent or manage these chronic diseases, with the goal to reduce or eliminate the need for medications.

Risk Factor Avoidance

An ounce of prevention…

Another contributor to longevity is limiting risk. We help understand your risk factors and make a plan to reduce them.

Successful smoking cessation is a primary focus in select individuals.

Skin protection is an important aspect of not only looking younger, but decreasing the risk of cancer.

Preservation of hearing and vision are vital to healthy aging, as well as day-to-day living. Promoting healthy habits in regards to noise and eye protection are relevant to all patients looking to enhance longevity.

Environmental exposures like microplastics and forever chemicals are another growing concern in health. We watch the research and take these into account when thinking about strategies to promote a healthier lifestyle.

Weight Management

Body positivity, increasing energy

Obesity and metabolic syndrome are exceedingly prevalent in modern society. Incidence of both is increasing through a number of complicated mechanisms, which directly reduces health and longevity.

Weight loss is not a one-size fits all proposition. There are complicated genetic, and socio-economic factors to consider on an individual level.

At hinoki, we focus on building sustainable, long-term changes to manage weight. This often includes additive changes, as well as macronutrient management and even medication intervention when appropriate. We promote body positivity, and strive for emotional neutrality in the context of weight and food.

Sauna and Contrast Therapy

Sweat for health

Passive heat exposure, like sauna, steam bathing and hot water immersion, has been featured in cultures around the world for centuries. Modern research is starting to catch on, with studies suggesting a multitude of benefits including reductions in cardiovascular disease, and improvements in emotional health.

Contrast therapy is also featured around the globe, with deliberate cold exposure (like a cold plunge) often alongside passive heat exposure practices. Researchers are just beginning to explore the benefits of deliberate cold exposure and contrast therapy, but initial findings highlight potential benefits for athletic recovery and mood enhancement.

Heart and Brain Health

Linked in sickness and in health

Cardiovascular disease, stroke and dementia rates have increased in modern society, which directly reduce healthspan and lifespan. We evaluate your risks of these diseases and how to prevent them as you age, as the health of your heart and brain go hand in hand.

To think seriously about longevity, it is imperative to aggressively prevent and treat high blood pressure as well as high cholesterol. This starts with appropriate measurement of blood pressure, advanced cholesterol testing, body composition, and review of nutritional habits.
